From Neighbors to Friends, From Friends to Founders

We met as farmers market managers, working to build diverse, food equity-focused markets in Indianapolis, prioritizing local farmers, small businesses, and community accessibility in our markets. It wasn’t long before we realized we were also neighbors, living on the same street only a few homes apart, both passionate about gardening, cooking, and the joy of feeding our loved ones from our own backyards.

As we deepened our friendship, and our work in food justice, we saw firsthand how systemic barriers keep people from growing and accessing real, nourishing food and how folks are being kept from accessing information and skills that are rightfully theirs. This realization radicalized us pushing us beyond simply running markets to actively deciding to help our community reclaim food sovereignty. For years we dreamed and schemed about working together to better our community and our own lives in some capacity.

Mandy Wright-Jarrett

Hello farm fans, my name is Mandy Wright-Jarrett  and I am happily one of the two powerful women who own and operate Hallowed Harvest Seed Company. I am really excited to start this journey with you all as we grow and add more and more seeds in the coming months!

My background has always been about holistic health and food. I owned and operated a wellness space for years before accidentally falling into a small town farmer’s market that transferred me into the amazing world of food, farming and relationships with local food. My background then took a turn and I began heavily growing and raising my own food personally. The farmers I worked with taught me so much.

Fast forward to now and I am a small urban farmer in the city and I work as a food access consultant for various organizations and individuals.  My journey with farming and food the last 28 years has taught me our food system is not fair. Organizing and leading food events in historical locations, directing farmer’s markets, working with small, local grocers have enlightened me to the hard truth that our food system is purposely not accessible to many.   Let’s change that. The best way to begin is to sow your own seeds and share with others.

Hannah Bair

Hey friends! I’m Hannah, Indiana born and bred, Indianapolis transplant since 2014. I have been working in food and with farmers since 2017 and seriously gardening since 2018 when we bought our first house. I love nothing more than to be in the sun, play in the dirt, and to peruse farmers markets. I purchased this seed company as an opportunity to work with my close friend, and to feed and care for my community through the independence that comes from growing your own food.
